Hot Tub Rules Safety Document
- Shower with soap and water before and after using the hot tub. Showering before washes away common skin bacteria and removes creams and lotions that reduce the effectiveness of the hot tub sanitizer which is added to disinfect the water. Showering afterwards rinses off residue from the sanitizing agents.
- During pregnancy, soaking in the hot tub may cause damage to the unborn baby so you are recommended to seek medical advice before entering the water.
- People with skin, ear, eye, genital or any other body infection, open sores or wounds should not use the hot tub due to the risk of spreading infection or irritating the condition.
- Never use the hot tub whilst under the influence of narcotics or other drugs that may cause drowsiness, sleepiness or raise/lower blood pressure.
- The heat from the hot tub water speeds up the effects of alcohol and may cause sleepiness, dizziness and could lead to unconsciousness.
- Like swimming avoid using the hot tub immediately after a heavy meal.
- Avoid using the hot tub immediately after exercising as the water temperature can affect heart rate.
- At 39-40 degrees C (102f – 104f) limit your time in the hot tub to a maximum of 20 minutes as extending the time at this temperature can affect your inner organs and can cause fever-like conditions. At 36-37 degrees C (97f – 99f) this time can be extended as this is normal body temperature.
- Do not immerse you head under the water as this increases the risk of infection and heightens the danger of drowning.
- Never use the hot tub alone.
- Take care when entering and leaving the hot tub. After bathing your leg muscles may become relaxed enough to make you become unsteady.
- Never use glass in or near the hot tub as broken glass may be difficult to see in the water and could cause serious injury. Plastic drinking glasses are provided.
- Do not use electrical appliances in or near the hot tub.
- Water is sanitised using chlorine to prevent bacteria and legionella. As such the colours of bathing costumes may be affected. We take no responsibility should this occur.
- If you suspect any fault with the hot tub, please contact your hosts immediately and do not enter the water.
- Never allow children to enter the hot tub without adult supervision, and ensure the hot tub lid is securely in place when not in use.
- Do not touch any metal parts once the stove is lit as these will become very hot and therefore have an increased risk of burning.
- Very hot water is sent from the stove directly in to the tub, please take extra care around the water inlet (top hole)
- Do not allow children to operate the wood fired heater.
- Parents/carers are advised that hot tubs are unsuitable for children under the age of four.
- Parents/carers should advise children in their care not to allow hot tub water to enter their mouths due to risk of infection and illness.
- Persons with heart disease, diabetes, high or low blood pressure or any other illness should seek medical advice prior to using the hot tub.
- Take care on the steps and decking area as these may be slippery when wet.
- If any allergic reaction occurs, leave the hot tub immediately and take a shower. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention. Contact numbers for local A&E are displayed close to the hot tub. Please also advise your hosts.
